Tulip Magnolias

This is another painting created for the classes I have been teaching at the Arts Center.   It is painted on 1/4 sheet of Arches cold-pressed 140 lb. watercolor paper.

Three lovely floral pieces in your last few posts. Rich colours and very fresh.

How fresh are these paintings! As usual, great details, especially with the foliage. I like the background of the top one, is it airbrushed?

Barbara, as always, I am so taken with your florals. I see some kinship with Georgia O,Keefe.

I was checking back through your recent posts and so enjoyed your recent vacation paintings. I have that same need to capture my experiences through my art. Just lovely. Your sunset done in oils reminded my of our bicycle tour along Lake Erie in Ohio: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/bobandmary

Thanks for keeping up with my blog. This has been a year for travel with a major trip every month since May and continuing into November, so my visits to others have been limited.

Hi Susan...thanks for your comments - the background is not air-brushed...it is a salt effect -I used fine salt on the wash when the wash was beginning to dry. A touchy time to add salt because it can just sit on the surface. Luckily this one worked. Hope your DH is healing well.

Mary - what a compliment to be compared to O'Keefe- one of my favorite artists.
I just returned from a painting vacation at Pipestem Resort in southern West Virginia. I was with 3 other artists and we rented a cabin for a week. What a treat! My sunset in oils was of a sunset over Lake Erie - those sunsets can be right up there with sunsets from anywhere in the world! I was hoping to get a sunset over the West Virginia mountains, but unfortunately the sun didn't shine too much this week this week. I still painted! In the rain!
