My husband and I spent every weekday for 6 weeks this summer traveling to Lima - a distance of 25 miles one way - so that he could receive radiation treatments for throat cancer. This is a scene I saw everyday, but one morning, everything was perfect - all I could see was "painting!" I asked him to stop the car and I took several photos. I finished this small painting yesterday - it is 6" x 8" and it is painted in oils. It is hard to believe, but this is exactly how it looked that morning - it looked like the trees were outlined in darker green and so I tried to capture this without giving the impression that I outlined everything. It brings those days back vividly to me.

Barb, this is just beautiful. I love the orange underpainting that you've allowed to peep through in spots and the darker limning is perfect.
I am so sorry to hear about your husband's cancer. I hope and pray that he is on the mend and cancer free.
There is a real sense of calmness and serenity while looking at this painting, Barb. I'm hoping that it brings you hope and peace of mind and inner calm while you and your husband are coping with all that he is going through. There is light in this painting, as well as a long and winding road, which, when I look at it, expresses the light that is hope and light at the end of a long journey, with its many twists and turns and changes along the way. Barb , although haven't been posting I visit all of you and see your work in oils is every bit as good as your watercolors..
I pray that things go better for both of you as the journey of one who is the caregiver is just as hard as the one who needs it..

Sherry - You are amazing! You picked up on the orange underpainting! I almost always use an underpainting with my oils - usually orange or burnt sienna. I think that adds warmth and harmony to the work. Thanks for your concern about my husband, too!

Barb your painting is beautiful and shows nothing of the difficult time that you and your DH are going through. I pray that he fully recovers from this and for strength for you as his support system.
