Sandstone Falls

This is an oil painting of Sandstone Falls which is on the New River in the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia.  This place is magical and fascinating.  I painted it en plein air during my art vacation in southern West Virginia 2 weeks  ago with 3 good painting friends.  I had a wonderful time painting the beautiful vistas in the area.  The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on a canvas panel.

Absolutely gorgeous and I knew it had to come from your week in West VA :)

Great plein air result and with oils too. I just know I'd get into a real mess using that media out doors. Another wonderful memory of your Virginia painting trip.

Rhonda...Thanks! I did 3 paintings that week - this was the first...what a wonderful week.

Joan...since up to a year ago I was a studio painter- mostly in watercolor, I consider myself a novice in oil painting en plein air. If you have the right equipment, it is not so messy. I have some wonderful memories and find that painting outside is very inspirational and rewarding.
