This is a painting I prepared for the class I am teaching at the Riverside Arts Center in Wapakoneta, Ohio. It was basically a lesson in painting textures. I taught the lesson this evening and the students ( all adults) did very well and enjoyed the process. The painting is from a lovely Wet Canvas photo by Sue Galos. Photographers and artists post their photos in the reference library for use by other artists. It is a wonderful source for those needing something special. The size of the painting is 8" x 10" and is painted on hot pressed, 140 lb. Canson Tientes watercolor paper.

I cannot tell you how much I like this painting...I like it this much! (Picture my arms as wide open as they will go!) What color(s) did you use for the water, it is so nice.
Hi Susan...thanks a bunch for the nice comment! I used Turquoise and viridian with some burnt sienna to tone it down - the door likewise. I used a lot of indian red in this painting combined with burnt sienna for the bricks.
Having visited Venice last summer and going again next May, I fell in love with your old canal doorway. Such delightful colours and textures.
Joan...how fortunate you are to have visited Venice and see these things first hand! I loved painting this...There are so many beautiful things in this world to paint.
Wonderful painting. I especially like the reflections in the water contrasted against the old brick. I've painted this very scene from one of my old photos with a lot less success. Bravo!
Mary...Thanks for commenting! This old doorway must be a very popular subject for paintings- several artists, like you and I, have painted it I recently found out:)! It is very interesting. It is so hard to believe that people live that close to the water. I would love to visit there and see it for myself.
Barb. this is really a good one. You have so much talent.. Honestly I love these works that you create. I thank you for coming to my blog and appreciate all your comments..
This is truly wonderful. The quality of light and the depth of reflection in the water make it really magical! x
