Awards Reception at St. Mary's

Today was the reception for the St. Mary's Summer ArtFest and here I am with my painting and ribbon for Outstanding Watercolor.  We were having problems with the camera and you can tell from the expression on my face that I am very apprehensive about Rock and how he was handling the camera.  In his defense, I have been having trouble with the camera - I think it is on it's last leg - time for a new camera! He is a sweet husband and so supportive with all my art activities! We celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in December - so he has had MANY years as a personal supporter of his wife's art explorations and all it entails.  All in all, it was a great day!
This is a picture of my dear husband, Rock and me standing in front of the painting which received the Honorable Mention award.  I combined two photos for this painting - a California vintage truck which my brother Tim took a picture of in California,(a pink truck, by the way),  and a barn photo which I took many years ago.  I put both photos into Photoshop and did some copy, cut and pasting and - voila! - a unique composition with a totally imaginative back and foreground!

Congratulations on the awards. You and I must be about the same age as we've just celebrated our fiftieth last year. I also paint but the big difference is that I didn't take it up seriously until the last year or so. I never had any lessons but started out very tentatively seeing if I could do it and if I wanted to. It was very nerve wracking posting my 'masterpieces' at first. But i'm getting used to it. Never put up any in an art show though. I do admire your artwork, so congratulations again.

Again, I wish you congratulations on the fabulous wins, Barb. An even bigger win? 50 years with your husband! What a fabulous post this was!

Congrats - not only on the award but also on a long and happy marriage! (My husband is also supportive and helpful in my art endeavors - especially when food is involved at the receptions!!) Love the old truck and have painted something similar several years ago (what is it about old cars, bikes and motorcycles??)

Hi Chris...Yes- If you have been married 50+ years we are probably sisters in age as well as art! I am going to turn 72 next month - hard to believe - I don't feel that old! :)It is really great that painting has found you. I tried to check out your web site but couldn't connect for some reason. You should try entering some contests - it is a wonderful experience. I am also a retired educator - I retired for the second time in June of this year - a total of 45 years in the classroom - 40 of them in public school art educ. and 5 in elementary education. Thanks for your wonderful comments.

Autumn Leaves - do you have a first name (tee hee) so I don't have to use Autumn Leaves? I always enjoy your posts - yes - 50 years - a long time! But honestly, it doesn't seem as long as it sounds. (except when I look at my soon to be 48 year old daughter!)

Nancy...I may be an inspiration to you, but your kind words are always inspiring to me! Thank you so much.

Deb - I couldn't have had my painting career if it hadn't been for my dear Rock! I think a supportive spouse is so important for an artist. Also - I am so right-brained, his logical left-brain keeps me on the straight and narrow! :-)
You are very correct - there is something about old vehicles that is very appealing to me - and for me expecially vintage trucks. I have some good photos of rusty bicycles that a good friend sent to me though, that I am getting ready to start on!

Thanks Christiane! It is always a pleasure to get awards for doing something you love - sort of like frosting on the cake!

Hi Barb...I'll be 71 in November...so some of us fall right in that same age range!!! I love your hair...you've had it cut since you posted your photo on the blog and it looks wonderful! Very flattering! The paintings are of course splendid as always and it is so wonderful to be recognized. I haven't had time to comment on blogs much this summer but I do follow!!! You are an inspriation.

Ginny...Thanks for liking my new hair cut - quite a drastic change, isn't it? It is nice to know that I have company in the 70's age bracket...all those years of experience must mean something! Thanks for your wonderful comments and encouragement.
