Craig's Bowl

The Muses, our Thursday painting group, painted yesterday ... another monochromatic watercolor still life because they enjoyed doing it so much last Thursday.  We featured a ceramic bowl created by Rosie's son Craig and incorporated some fruit, leaves and a wine bottle.  We pulled it all together with our two pieces of fabric - a dark tone and a light tone.
This is my effort from yesterday and I am basically happy with it.  I used cerulean blue from my watercolor palette.  I discovered that I have two different brands of cerulean blue and since they were in the same well on my palette, this painting, although monochromatic, is a mixture of my two cerulean blues.  The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper.

What a gorgeous bowl!! I think that if there was a wedge of cheese here, I'd be in quite the blue hog heaven. Beautiful as always, Barbara!

Christiane - thanks for the compliment - I have always liked to work monochromatically but I have a way to go:) I guess I still love color and lots of it!

I am so jealous that your painting group is so inspirational. Tell me more about the Muses and who decides on the themes each time you meet. How often do you meet. Is everyone in different mediums?

I enjoyed a short romp through the Muses' blog, what a great-sounding group! I wouldn't give up my art buds for anything!

Great monochromatic painting!

Ginny...We started out as a watercolor group and we have gradually branched out in to different media. We have been in existence since the middle 90's. Each week, we discuss what we would like to do the next week and usually one of us takes responsibility for getting the plans made, etc. Sometimes we paint in w/c and sometimes in oil, or even mixed media. Sometimes I set up a special 'experience' for them - like texturing with gesso and watercoloring on it, or recently we did a poured painting in liquid acrylics. In good weather we paint in plein air. This coming week we are going out to lunch and then to the California Plein Air Painters show at the Dayton Art Institute. We always have a great time!

Susan - glad you like the monochromatic painting...Thanks for visiting the Muse's blog - it hasn't been in existence too long. I think it is interesting to see the different takes on subjects/projects, don't you? One thing for sure - we always have a good time.
