Sometimes the paper towel you clean your brushes on is a better painting than the painting itself!!! In this case I think that is true. My iris on Yupo painting needs "HELP!" I am done, done, done with it in either case. Yupo is just not my thing - one of these days I will accept that fact, but I never give up - but I had this nice piece of Yupo laying around and well...................

Anyway...I like the paper towel better - all it needed was a little black ink contour line ...and...VOILA! A painting! :)

Oh Barb...I have to say that the Yupo irises do show off very well in the photo. It "looks" beautiful. But I agree that Yupo has a unique sort of technique. And I haven't given up yet. Wish I could remember the artist who's video I have in FLorida on Yupo. I am having a senior moment. When you watch him work...you rebuild you confidence that you can and SHOULD paint on yupo! I smiled over the paper towel. It is just darling! Hahahaha. I did a similar thing with my last batik and ended up framing the freezer paper that was underneath it! I kid you not.

You are too funny! That iris is just beautiful! And, so is the paper towel! I didn't like working on Yupo, so I can't give you any encouragement.

Barb, come on down to Cincinnati and take a Yupo workshop with Sandy Maudlin - she'll teach you how to tame this monster! ha ha I like this painting and don't see anything wrong at all with it but it could use a bit more warms in the leaves, I think - or a different bg - everything seems too pretty in color? Does that make sense? I know what you mean about the paper towel!!

Ginny,
Glad to hear you framed the freezer paper:) Don't get me wrong - I like the Yupo, but find it very intimidating - I have only done maybe 3 paintings on it.

Nancy,
Thanks for the positive comment - I feel better...Thanks for checking in on the blog.

Rhonda,
I would dearly love to attend one of Sandy's Yupo workshops and may do so in the future. I see what you mean about the "pretty" colors - perhaps some quin gold/burnt sienna in the leaves might help.
