Skyline Painting for Class

Another class project designed for my intermediate watercolor class at Riverside Art Center.  This is loosely based on a number of skyline paintings I saw on the internet and thought it would make a good lesson - geometric design, semi-abstraction, gradation of color and, in this case a complementary color scheme- oranges and blues and yellows and violets!.  This painting is painted on Acquerello 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper and was painted with the new QoR (Core) paints from Golden Paints. The painting is 12" x 9".

Love the mix of rather modernist style with the historical feeling skyline. Quite a beautiful silhouette effect, Barb!

Sherry - it is sort of a stylized version of the Cincinnati skyline with Mt. Adams - a good friend of mine picked up on this - it was totally by accident - it was only after she pointed this out to me that I saw it! I think the painters will enjoy this on Monday night.

Thanks, Ginny! I thought it was time for a change after 2 years! lol!
This skyline painting is more abstract than what I usually teach - I think they will enjoy it! It is also a great lesson in teaching graduated washes from dark to light.

I do skylines with both my drawing classes and my painting classes. They are great for linework and value studies, both, not to mention shape. This painting is so interesting!
