The Ware Family Farm

I have not posted for a week because I am in the process of finishing up on this painting of an old family farm just outside of Jackson Center.  It is no longer standing.  Thank goodness we have an old photo (2 1/2 x 4") to go by.  I scanned the photo into my computer and printed it out as 8"x10" to work from which was very helpful.  The finished painting is 24" x 42" and is painted on a gesso coated masonite board.  I still plan to work on the trees some, but otherwise the painting is finished.  It has taken a couple months to complete because I was also teaching a mixed media class this summer.   It is a shame that this home is no longer standing.

It's wonderful! I like the warm colors and how the whole thing just glows with comfort, like a home should. Glad you finished it!

It is such a shame that this beautiful home is no longer standing. I so love old farmsteads... Your palette is gorgeous, Barb. I really love the autumn feel to this piece you've made me see the golds and browns with a fresh eye. I think this piece is stunning.

Sherry, Donna and renate: I am happy that you like my farm painting. The man I did the commission for said that he did not want it to be summer...I did not want it to be winter because the snow would compete with the house, so I decided on late fall - probably November. Donna - I love sepia- it is one of my favorite colors and I use it more for my darks than black mixtures.
