The Old Buzzard House on County 13

I finished this painting this evening - it is the painting we will be doing at our Monday evening class this week at Riverside Arts Center in Wapakoneta, Ohio. The source of this painting is a photograph which I took this summer. I previously painted a different view of this old house earlier this fall for the September project of Watercolor Workshop. The painting is 11" x 14" and is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed Fabriano-Artistico watercolor paper.

I had forgotten that you were in Ohio I guess! I lived in Wapakoneta for a year, way back when I first started teaching! Its a very quaint little town. The locals call it 'wapak' though, never the whole name wapakoneta. The painting is fabulous!

Katherine...I also taught in Wapak when I first started teaching - but that was way back in 1961 - a lot of water under the bridge since then. Yes - we still call it Wapak and it is still a beautiful, quaint little town. We now have a wonderful community arts center which has been a wonderful addition to the town. I am happy you like my "old Buzzard" painting.

I love the lighting on the walls of the house, I love the colors of this painting, but I especially appreciate the wonderfully watercolory foliage you achieved on those trees! It looks so correct to me.

Wonderful contrast of colour and texture. Congrats. x

Thanks so much, Susan and Gillian.
I wanted to accentuate the tight painting of the house with the loose areas surrounding - I like the contract also. I guess it worked.

Peaceful old place. I like the dark shadows and the variations in the landscape. Nice work!
