Monday night I had my intermediate art class doing the watercolor on stamped gesso paintings of pears. We only completed 2 of the 3, so they took home some homework! :) They did so well and I think they really did enjoy the project. I know I did! It was a lot of fun. I have the BEST students - and talented too!

What is a stamped gesso painting? I am fascinated.

You paint gesso on an illustration or mat board piece and then lay a textured cloth on top - I used rubber shelf paper on these. Allow it to dry and then pull the texture off and paint with watercolors. It is a lot like painting on YUPO - you can move the paint around and also lift back to white - very interesting!
How are you? How long are you going to be in the sunny south? Hope to see you this summer in the northwoods!!!

Barb, all of these ladies did a stunning job. I think Dianne's are my favorite as her work reminds me of your own pears that you did awhile back.

Sherry...yes - they all did an awesome job. Dianne was sitting next to me and watched me carefully as I worked - she is a good student! (smile!) Seriously, though - she does a great job! - they all did! What is interesting, is that, although they all started off with the same source and supplies, all the results were different! They always are...witness to the fact that we are all such different individuals!!! Thank God!

Looks like your students really learned a lot from you with this pear project. Loved your own Quartet piece posted earlier.

I would be afraid to leave the textured cloth on until the gesso dries! Does it get stuck? I thought that the pear shapes were somehow imprinted into the gesso and then each artist did their own unique painting.

We leaving Fl on this coming Monday and making a slow trip up north getting to LDF on Memorial Day Weekend. I'll write you privately to send phone and address. It would be wonderful to see you.
