"Pretty in Pink"

It is finally complete!!! The source photo of this painting was a photograph taken by Cia Price, who is now deceased. This will never do justice to her beautiful paintings, but hopefully it will honor her. The name, Pretty in Pink, comes from Norena Fox, a friend who suggested it. Thanks, Norena!

The painting is 22"x28" and is painted on 140 lb. Canson One cold-pressed watercolor paper. The drawing itself was done by using a grid which I divided into 16 sections and the underpainting was poured using acrylic inks during a demonstration at the Lima Area Watercolor Society last Tuesday evening. It was completed using traditional transparent watercolor techniques.

Studio At the Farm... Thanks so much for commenting - your comments are always much appreciated.

Thanks very much, Gillian! Yes - I also think it looks sort of like silk painting - probably because of the technique of using the miskit arount the various areas. It separates like the resist in silk painting, doesn't it?

Barb, this is absolutely beautiful! How do you like the acrylic inks?

Barb Sailor said...

Thank you, Krista...I like the ink for its intensity, but don't like it because it is difficult to handle - if you aren't careful, you will get blooms where you don't want them and when you pour with them they sometimes dry differently than you expect. Of course - that all adds to the spontaneous quality that I do like. They take some practice, but I like them. I also like that you can paint over them and they are permanent so they don't lift when you glaze.

Hi Barb, I just found your blog and found this as I was checking it out. At first I thought it was a silk painting. Your colors are brilliant and I love the design.

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for visitng my blog. This painting resembles a silk painting because I used liquid miskit to separate the petals and color areas to purposely give it a batik like appearance, which, of course, silk painting is...I love the effect this gives to a painting. I used the same technique, to a degree, with the painting of the azaleas in the heading area of my blog.
