Painting Day Lillies

This is the latest project for my intermediate watercolor painting class at Riverside Arts Center in Wapakoneta.  I did This painting of pink day lillies   from a Wet Canvas  reference library photo.  It is approx 8" x 12" and is painted on Canson Tientes 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.  I really love painting lillies - they are so delicate and exotic.  I used quinacridone rose, quin. rose-violet and violet for the flowers.  The quinacridone colors are so beautifully transparent - I love to paint with them.

Barb, these are just glorious! I agree with you about the quin colors, they are so clean and clear. Lucky students you have!

Everyone seems to be using these 'quin' colours of late and they sure are great for flowers. Wonderful fresh work.

Susan and Joan...I love the jewel like colors of the quins...and yes - they are wonderful for flowers. Hopefully I will get a good picture of my students flowers for my blog.

Gorgeous painting, Barb. Funny, I just left a message on Deb Ward's blog about the quins: now, after reading the three comments above mine, they certainly will be on my Xmas wish list:-)

Christiane...the quins are unbelievably pure and transparent and wonderful to work with. Of course the natural pigments have their place too - we need them both! The quins certainly have a place in your beautiful paintings.
