One Wednesday afternoon recently, I was painting en plein air at the country home of some friends near where we live. They have some wonderful animals and we were first greeted by the 3 dogs, a golden lab and 2 boxers. After I was set up and beginning to paint, I was greeted by Ashley the cat, who took a liking to me - so much that I was unable to paint for a while - she was persistent in making sure that she had my attention. What an affectionate, sweet and gentle cat! Painting en plein air has many advantages and perks - Ashley was definitely one of them. The barn painting, which I did eventually get painted, is 9" x 12" and is painted on a canvas panel. It is always going to be a reminder of a lovely afternoon with a wonderful furry friend!

Gillian...Thanks for mentioning the barn - I worked really hard on those shadows!!! I will always love this painting. This is why I love plein air painting - so many wonderful memories.
Rhonda...she is an awfully cute cat - you can't help but love her. I'll think of her everytime I see that painting.
I had to check again to see if the image was a painting or photo. That to some artists does not sound like praise - but I really mean you have created a wonderful scene with this barn. Particularly love the shadows and colours. Great cat two - we are cat lovers with two - a Burmese Blue and a Rag Doll (part).

Personally, I am not a cat person, I melt around dogs but not so much cats. Nothing personal, just can't seem to get into them. So, I think they sense that and try to target me for a conversion to being a cat person. They rub on me, meow ceaselessly, try to walk along the furniture backs to get to my neck, etc. whenever I am around them. Happens every time. Hmmmm.
When we had kids at home one of our sons adopted a stray and it found its rightful way into our household and I did miss him when he was gone, but still held on to my dog preference. He was a special buddy of my husband's and could sense when he was having a low blood sugar during the night and would jump on his chest and wake him up. Of course, when Tom got a spoonful of peanut butter for his blood sugar he got one for Sam, also, so I think there was something not altogether altruistic about Sam's sensing low blood sugars! LOL
Joan...aren't rag dolls great! I don't have cats, but I have friends with rag dolls. I am honored you think the barn was a photo - I worked very hard on the shadows and reflections. Thanks.
Susan...Rock and I have always had dogs also, but we had cats when I was a child. They are a totally different story, aren't they? - very intelligent! Of course our dog is very intelligent, also - humans tend to underestimate animal intelligence, don't you think?
Yes - I had a wonderful time painting the barn!
