I spent a wonderful afternoon yesterday studying and painting trees. Patty, Michelle and I sat on Patty's front porch and painted en plein air - studying the shapes of the trees and blocking in the darks and lights, and trying to catch the atmosphere and spirit of a hot, late summer afternoon. How lucky we are...

Gorgeous result here, Barb, and excellent capture of the sun dappled ground. Beautiful!
makes me want to crawl under those trees and take a nap :)
Very lush and green!
You've got a lovely variety of greens to make us keep looking and the sun-dappled ground is perfect. Hmm...maybe a group nap under the trees - if the breeze is cool today :)
Thanks, everyone, for commenting on my plein air painting. I think that nap sounds pretty good also! :)
You have certainly captured the feeling of that lazy, hot summer day. Beautiful colors!
Hi Barb! Since we here on the desert are still enduring triple-digit temps the dappled shade here for painting would not lend itself to leisure plein air painting! But, when you are all under snow drifts in December and January, you may find me out on the desert doing the leisurely painting.
I love the varied greens in this and envy your sitting in the shade in Patty's yard.
Christiane and Susan - Thanks for your comments. Christiane, I am happy you feel that I captured the essence of that lazy day. Susan - come December I know I am going to remember this afternoon fondly...in fact...I will really miss my plein air painting, which I have enjoyed very much this summer. I will have to admit that my watercolor painting time has suffered because of the oil painting...but I have all winter to paint in watercolors.
Barb, Trees are one of my favorite things, so I like this a lot..
