A SPANISH FOUNTAIN

I did this painting for the May gallery of the Aquanet web site.  The theme was to do a painting in the style of a John Singer Sargent watercolor of a fountain which is posted on the site.  I found a photo on Wet Canvas of a Spanish Fountain to use for my source.  I studied the paintings of Sargent and tried to do my painting in his style.  Well - it's not a bad painting, but it isn't in his style either... it is in my style!  Oh Well......

The painting is 9" x 15 " and is painted on Canson 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper with mostly Holbein watercolors.

Barb, this is beautiful. I love your careful attention to correct shapes in both drawing and color. That basis makes this an outstanding piece. It caught my eye in the small on my blog list and I said, "Did she really paint this?" So I had to come here to see it IRL (well, almost IRL)--A joy to discover and meander thruout.

Ruth...I am obsessive about the correct shapes - always have been. I suppose that explains why I am such a controlled painter and not a "loose" woman:) tee hee! Thanks for visiting!

Gillian - thank you so much for your enthusiastic support - it is very much appreciated. I have found that I am better off sticking to my style and that's a good thing since I can't seem to paint any other way. :) Thanks for visiting my blog, Gillian, I love your work!
