I finished this painting a couple of days ago for the Watercolor Passion website: www.watercolorpassion.com The project theme for this quarter is "food and drink" and so I selected a photo from the reference library of Wet Canvas which I thought fit the description well and one which I would like to paint. It was posted by Devymarie. The cup reminds me of my mother's china and I think this struck a chord in me - a nostalgic chord. Who wouldn't want fresh grapes, fig newtons and a hot cup of coffee for the perfect afternoon snack. The painting is 8" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.

Barbara this is really beautiful. I love the feel of elegance and ladylike refinement to the piece. Not a fan of Fig Newtons or of grapes, or even coffee at any time other than the a.m. - unless I am in the mood for it, of course. Still, it all comes together in one exquisite piece of art!

And, I'm still in love with your painting of elegant tea/coffee time. Unlike AutumnLeaves, I love Fig Newtons & green grapes, so your painting is MY "cup of tea". Love it, love it, love it.

Ruth...as you know negative painting is probably my favorite watercolor technique and you handled it so well with your leaf painting. I also love Fig Newtons and green grapes, but my dog Tara loves those cookies even more. Of course she can't have the grapes since they are poison to our furry friends!

You are very fortunate to have started at such a young age. I sometimes feel pressured that I have to make up for so much lost time. I do like the cup and saucer painting. Very delicate.
Chris...yes, i was very fortunate to have parents who nurtured my artistic side. When I told them I wanted to be a high school art teacher, they had reservations, because in 1956 that wasn't a real secure job. I have never regretted the move and have been blessed a hundred-fold in my life being able to not only paint, but to also be able to have a career in art. Thanks for visiting my blog. barb
