This is a mixed media painting I finished a couple of months ago. I was experimenting with watercolor crayons over acrylic ink washes. I did a background wash in acrylic inks in several colors and then covered the entire surface with crinkled saran wrap, and allowed it all to dry. Then I looked at the images that appeared and saw a fish/underwater creature and decided to develop that image. I love linear design, so decided to use the watercolor crayons to further develop the image and then added linear textural design with repeated shapes and colors. It is pretty wild, but then I love COLOR!

Barbara, this is truly beautiful. It reminds me of the cave drawings, some of which still retain whatever pigments were used in the story telling. You are one versatile and amazing artist! Always a treat over here!
Wow Barb, in addition to your trying to become a "loose woman", you are now becoming a "wild woman"! This is crazy cool and reminds me to get out my caran d'arche crayons more often! As AumumnLeaves said, I agree it would make for some crazy petroglyph paintings. So many idea, so little time to work on them!
AutumnLeaves...Thanks a lot - yes - I think it does look like cave drawings. I have never seen the petroglyphs in the southwest, but I have seen them in Canada - simply awesome! They lend themselves to linear texture.
I am glad you think it is a treat here - I am trying to keep it creative and interesting.
Susan ... Loose and Wild - those are my aims!!! :) Caran D'Arche are my favorites - you can do so much with them and the colors are so beautiful. Yes - there isn't enough time to try all the ideas we have, but I certainly enjoy trying! :)
I love color too and I LOVE this painting! :D
Thank you Kathi.
