Dahlia WIP

This are my examples of the painting which is the last lesson for the intermediate watercolor class I am teaching at the Riverside Art Center in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Both are poured watercolors. The example on the right is one where I used mask on the edges before the pouring. The painting on the left is the same drawing poured without the masking on the edges. My students did their pouring on Monday night and they all used mask. Next week, they will remove the mask and detail the painting by painting in shadows, etc, as I have started to do in both paintings. I plan to post the finished paintings and will also post my student's paintings when they are finished.

Both look great; I'm leaning toward the one on the right with white edges; look forward to seeing them all!!

Me three! I like the added sparkle those masked edges will have. I'd sure like to be a mouse in the corner watching the students go for this one. I am sure their paintings will be grand, what an opportunity for them to be learning from you.

Hi, Barb. The masked edges give a uniqueness to the one on the left. I've never used much masking fluid and had not thought of masking edges. I'd like to try it sometime. Also, I've never poured paint. I was intrigued by your posts on the Clematis done in two methods, both lovely.

Barb, each time you do a poured painting, I think, "That's the best thing I've seen her do!" Then you turn around and do something even more gorgeous and amazing and awe-inspiring! Your students are lucky to be learning from you. I, too, LOVE the one with the white edges - gives it an extra kick!

Barb, the masking on the edges produces a great effect. I have used masking on edges to keep the poured paint away from an area...I have never thought of using masked edges as you have! Beautiful!

Thank you all for commenting on the two dahlia WIP paintings - we plan to finish these paintings Monday night and they will be posted. This group of students are very adventurous and it is a pleasure to work with them.
