I did this painting from a photograph I took of an iris grown by my friend Patty Magoto. She has the most beautiful flowers and the only problem with painting them is that I can never do them justice. This painting is 1/4 sheet of Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper with assorted watercolors.
Watercolor is my passion. After teaching art in the public schools for 40 + years I now have time to create art for myself. I am a watercolorist who sometimes likes to work in mixed media as well. My journey in art began when I was a small child and continues to this day. Barbara Hart Sailor

Patty's Pink Iris

Oh, you did this justice! Simply gorgeous!
Barbara, you did this one justice, it is just simply beautiful!
Nancy and Krista...
Thank you so much..Happy Painting!
Barb
There is something sensuous and mysterious and dramatic about a dark background.
One of my New Year's resolutions is to say something "meaningful" in a comment on a blog. Not necessarily "deep" but at least no more "awesome" or "beautiful". Sorry Nancy and Krista...not meaning criticism...great and beautiful apply here!!! It is just that I feel sometimes we can all be better at saying WHY it appeals. I know that on my blogs, I'd prefer someone say "the color is what drew me in" or the "composition is bothering me, but the technique is what draws me to it." You know, something beside wow. We all LOVE to hear people like something but WHY? It helps to know why. Gosh...I am going to bed now.
The background really makes this flower stand out. I find irises very difficult to paint, but you handled this tough subject beautifully.
