Still Life Painting for Watercolor Workshop

I finished this still life painting yesterday. It was painted for the Watercolor Workshop monthly project where the members paint from a photograph provided by Gina Hall, a member of the Watercolor Workshop. It is 8" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper. This painting turned out very TIGHT which I try to get away from, but sometimes my inner nature triumphs and out pops TIGHT! Oh well - I have discussed this before and since there is nothing I can do about it because it is my nature/style to paint this way - Here it Is!

Never apologize for your inner artist, Barb. You did a good job on this! Tight is not wrong although most artists want to reach that "loose" nirvana that isn't a part of most of us - and I'm unsure it can really be learned - perhaps painting without our glasses on would help?

Perhaps:) When I fractured my shoulder, I painted left handed and, would you believe, I was still tight! So - I just think tight is me!

I've said this before, Barb, but being loose doesn't have to be the be-all and end-all for all painters! You paint what is in your style, and trust me...your style is wonderful and it is you, so keep on being tight. This painting is evidence that you should remain painting in this style, it is a super painting and one which I am not even going to try. I love the charm of it, but know I can't do anything that detailed and complicated right now so I am officially giving up before starting!

Now, I am going to start our Christmas Card painting....

Thanks so much Susan for the kind comments. I personally think you would do a wonderful job on that photograph. Have fun doing your Christmas card. I am going to finish printing mine tonight.
