Watercolor is my passion. After teaching art in the public schools for 40 + years I now have time to create art for myself. I am a watercolorist who sometimes likes to work in mixed media as well. My journey in art began when I was a small child and continues to this day. Barbara Hart Sailor

Barbara, this is very, very nice. You are quite versatile!
I especially like your choice of colors, the composition and the nice play of light/shadows that you have achieved.
Yes, It's a lovely piece. I admire your ability to switch from watercolor to oil. WoW! You inspire me!
Christiane - thank you very much for your comments -especially about the colors because I had doubts about using those particular colors- especially in the background. I appreciate your input.
jgr - I started out as an oil painter many years ago, but haven't painted in oils for many years. What is difficult for me is to use a loose approach in painting in oils - I am trying, but still fight tightness, as I do in watercolor. I guess it is hard to fight your own human nature to be a certain way:)
I had to comment because on the very first day of my painting class there was an eggplant on the still life we had to do ... I have said a few times.. that eggplant is goin to end up in another painting before the semester is over.
:) Very nice job by the way

Dee - I can honestly say that this is the first time in my life that I have ever painted an eggplant (and I am long in the tooth, as they say:)
I do have plans to use it again in another painting of the still life - I photographed it and plan to change the colors around so prepare to see it again. :) Thanks for commenting and visiting.

This painting is wonderful, Barbara, and the light and color remind me that you have a long history in watercolor.
I was thrilled today to pick up a 2004 Watercolor Magic to reread Betsy Dillard Stroud's Creativity Challenge. I just got to know Betsy really well hosting her in San Jose and taking her workshop. I said, wow, I know Barbara Sailor, when I saw that they had featured your entry in response to an earlier challenge. I love the tangled webs we weave!!

Mary...Thanks for your kind comments...Yes - I did have a painting accepted for the Watercolor Magic monthly challenge. I really enjoyed that series by Betsy, and was so sad when it was discontinued. I learned a lot doing those projects. I only sent 2 in, but both were accepted and I was on cloud nine:) Needless to say, I have saved those issues.
Others have told me that they see my watercolor history in my oil painting - perhaps it is just my style. I do know that I prefer watercolors above all other media.
Mary...what a wonderful experience to host such an interesting person and artist. I was following your blog during that time and your workshop must have been wonderful.
