Iris on Yupo Revisited

I went back into the iris painting last night and made some changes as suggested by my watercolor cyber friends. Rhonda suggested that the colors were too "pretty" and perhaps it would help if I added some browns in the leaves. I did this - in fact I used yellow ochre and burnt sienna. I also toned down the background by sponging on and painting in some more acrylic white ink over the background. I like it better now:)

Yup, this is an improvement although I didn't have any problems with version one, myself. I am not good at revising things so it's nice to have you talk through what you have tried and how you feel about what you have tried. It's like editing a manuscript...not as much fun as the original writing, but it can be just what is needed!

Barbara, I really liked the first rendition, but I agree that this is more interesting. Thanks for sharing your process -- always nice to hear how other artists approach a challenge. Gerald Brommer told us that painting is just a series of problem solving as you react to what develops on the surface.

Glad you like the revised painting - one never knows when you go back in to a painting if the results will be better or worse. I still like the fox island #1 better than the revised one:)but I like iris #2 better than #1. :)
Mary...
Gerald Brommer must be a very wise man - everything I have heard about his workshop is wonderful and I certainly agree with his comment about problem solving.

Very good finish, Barb, and I'll have to remember the white acrylic sponged on for a future project I have in mind :)

You may think YUPO is not your thing, but this beautiful painting speaks loudly that YOU paint very well on YUPO! Keep it up. The possiblities are endless and the colors of the landscapes you're doing now would be awesome on YUPO, especially the textures you could get in those rocks!

You are very encouraging, Sandy, I might just buy some more Yupo:) I am hoping to take one of your Yupo workshops some day - that would be a real treat. Thanks for taking time to comment.

Rhonda...I was happy with the way the white acrylic worked on the Yupo - but of course, i am not experienced with working with acrylics on Yupo - so these new discoveries excite me:)

Sherry...thank you so much for visiting my blog and for commenting. I explored yours tonight and was so pleasantly surprised - I love the diversity in the subject matter and your beautiful writing.
