This painting is for the June project for Watercolor Workshop where everyone paints from the same photograph. This month is a June Bug for June! I painted this on Masa paper, 9"x12". I soaked it, crinkled it up and then glued it to a piece of illustration board with matte acrylic medium. It was painted with regular assorted watercolors. I haven't painted on Masa paper for some time, but am still enchanted with the beautiful textures you can get with it.

Although my husband, the biologist, says this is not a june bug, he says he does like the colors. I love it - it's fun, bright, and unusual and I like that you used masa paper to get the texture in this one.
Thanks for commenting, Rhonda...your husband should know if it is truly a June Bug! I have never seen a June bug colored in this way - only the black ones we have up here in Ohio (which I don't care for at all:)) I thought the masa paper would work for the background since I wasn't sure what I would have him sitting on.
