This is my second painting using the 'bubble technique.' I prepared 4 papers at the time I was doing this so will eventually get to the other two. This is one that I dipped several times and the textured background is very busy. I have also noticed that this technique does change the surface of the paper somewhat - it does react to the watercolor differently. I also noticed that it is way more difficult to lift the watercolor once it has been applied.Watercolor is my passion. After teaching art in the public schools for 40 + years I now have time to create art for myself. I am a watercolorist who sometimes likes to work in mixed media as well. WOW! Barbara, what a wonderful use of the bubbled textures. Your painting is so serene yet facsinating because of the unusual surface treatment. Love it.
What a great palette! It reinforces the moody, cool feeling of the painting.
Sandy,
I am so happy with the bubbled surface treatment - thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. I love your work and really enjoy the new techniques you open our world to - each day is a revelation on your blog. If I lived closer, you would have me begging to get in your class.

Chris,
Thanks for the nice comment - that is what I was trying to depict - moody and cool. I notice that you are from the north - one of my favorite places is the north woods of Wisconsin - probably similar to where your are in Minnesota.

This bubble technique is so interesting. Beautiful painting. I must give this a try.
Vicki,
The bubble technique is a lot of fun and gives you a very interesting texture to work with. I think you will enjoy doing it.
