This is the 2nd painting using the "let it flow" techniques of Guy Lipscomb. I originally did 3 backgrounds, so there is one more if I care to use it. This one is 6" x 12" on Arches c/p watercolor paper. It was painted pretty quickly and is a lot looser than my usual work. This was fun. Tomorrow I plan to work on a demo for Watercolor Workshop using the "let it flow" techniques.

"Watercolor: Let it Flow" Self-Portrait

I have been experimenting with a technique from the book, "Watercolor, Let it Flow" by Gary Lipscomb. This technique involves a wet-in-wet underpainting and then a painting on top which doesn't necessarily have to be a part of the original painting plan. He sometimes does several underpaintings to have on hand. I decided to use myself since I didn't have to worry about putting wrinkles on someone else:) This was painted from a picture taken of me several years ago, so I made myself look better, too!:) This doesn't really look too much like me - it is really just a painting. I do like the unplanned, spontaneous color you get from this technique. This painting is 6" X 12" on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed w/c paper. I plan to try the technique on some larger paper now and see what happens.

Thursday painters at the Spring Fling Art Show

From left: Rosie, Patty, Theresa, Michelle, Me, Rose

We had a great day last Thursday - we had lunch at "In Good Taste", then went to see our art at the Spring Fling, (where this picture was taken), and then went to Theresa's home to celebrate Michelles birthday with delicious strawberry cake baked by Rosie. Yum, Yum!

Dogwood

Well, this is the last painting for my class at the Riverside Art's Center. It is 5"X7" and is painted on hot-pressed 140 lb. Arches w/c paper. This is one I would like to try again in the future - I wasn't too happy with it.

Bobbi's Spring Beauty

This iris was painted from a photograph taken by Bobbi Price who is a fellow artist member of Watercolor Workshop. She graciously allows us to use her photos for paintings and she has many beautiful iris pictures taken this spring. This painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on Arches cp 140 lb. watercolor paper with mostly Holbein watercolors. This painting was prepared for my adult intermediate painting class at Riverside Arts Center.

These two images were painted for the Watercolor Workshop's May projects. The first painting, the urang, was painted from a photograph by a friend, Debra Holmes, a painter and photographer who lives in Florida. She graciously allows me to use her pictures as sources for my paintings. The second painting is from a photo provided by Gina Hall on Watercolor Workshop and is a Kudu-antelope. This is the photo that all will paint from for the project this month. Both animals were a lot of fun to paint, especially since I seldom paint animals and found that I really did enjoy this. They are both on Arches 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.

The First Projects from the Spring Classes At RAC

The students are almost finished with the first projects - the old fashioned peony project and have been working of their hydrangeas and lilacs. Clockwise from the top ...Rose Hawkins, Jim Leitz and Dave McNeal. See...real men do paint flowers:) They have all done an excellent job and I will post the results of the other projects as soon as they are completed.

Hydrangea #2

This is the latest painting from the class I am teaching at the Riverside Arts Center. I decided the first hydrangea painting was much too tight and busy. This one is a little less tight and much less busy. I painted this along with the class last Monday night. This week they want to do lilacs. I did a lilac painting this week and it was an absolute disaster. I have some work to do before this Monday night rolls around:) This painting was painted on a 9"x12" Arches watercolor block (140 lb./cold-pressed.)
